ROCK HILL, S.C. Ahead of the construction project s original Monday deadline, two lanes on the new Interstate 77 southbound bridge over the Catawba River opened Friday afternoon. Friday afternoon we expect to move the two southbound lanes over into the southbound [bridge], South Carolina Department of Transportation Deputy Secretary for Engineering Leland Colvin told WCNC Charlotte Wednesday. Then starting Saturday afternoon, we ll open up all four lanes in the northbound, and then sometime midday Sunday we ll have all for lanes open in the southbound direction.

ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) A massive bridge repair project on one of South Carolina s busiest highways begins Thursday night and will likely cause commuting headaches for people who travel between Rock Hill and Charlotte, North Carolina.
Crews will close the Interstate 77 southbound bridge over the Catawba River at 9 p.m. May 6. It will remain closed for 17 days to replace to concrete road surface on the structure, the Department of Transportation said.
Southbound traffic will share the northbound bridge, and what is typically four lanes of traffic each way will be cut down to two lanes.

SOUTH CAROLINA, USA A major construction project on the Catawba River Bridge along I-77 in York County, South Carolina, is already driving people crazy and it s just getting started.
Heavy delays are expected along I-77 beginning Thursday days as crews work to replace a bridge deck. As a result, the southbound lanes will be completely shut down near Sutton Road at exit 83. Work is expected to begin at 9 p.m. Thursday, May 6 and last through May 24 at 5 a.m.

SOUTH CAROLINA, USA Drivers who frequently use I-77 between Charlotte and Rock Hill, get ready to pack your patience.
Heavy delays are expected next month as crews make major renovations to the Catawba River Bridge.
“We are going to replace the southbound bridge deck on I-77 over the Catawba River, SCDOT Deputy Secretary for Engineering Leland Colvin said.
The Catawba River Bridge was built in 1973.
It was widened in 2000 but SCDOT officials say short-term repairs just won t cut it anymore, because 120,000 cars travel on it daily, in both directions.
“We basically just need to go out there and quickly replace that riding surface, Colvin said.
