MSDH: Just more than 200 new cases of COVID-19 reported Tuesday

JACKSON, Miss. (WDAM) - The Mississippi State Department of Health reported just more than 200 new daily COVID-19 cases across the state.
MSDH reported 208 additional cases and 11 new deaths Tuesday statewide.
Three deaths were reported between May 1-May 2, including one each in Covington and Forrest counties.
Another eight deaths were discovered between Jan. 28-April 28 during a review of death certificates, including one in Forrest County.
The latest figures brought the state’s total cases and deaths since February 2020 to 312,608 and 7,221, respectively.
In the eight Pine Belt counties, 33,536 COVID-19 cases and 689 deaths have been reported since February 2020:

PINE BELT (WDAM) - School districts in the Pine Belt are announcing plans to dismiss students early Tuesday due to the threat of severe weather.
Below is a list of districts that have announced schedule changes. The list will be updated as more schools announce changes.
Baxterville School: Dismissing at 1:30 p.m.
Columbia School District: Dismissing at 1:45 p.m.
Covington County School District: Dismissing at noon
Forrest County School District 10th, 11th and 12th grades: Dismissing at 2:45 p.m.

After severe weather Sunday produced eight tornadoes, another round of storms Tuesday brought more damaging winds, hail and at least one tornado to parts of Mississippi.
Parts of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee, along with corners of Arkansas and Georgia, were impacted by severe weather Tuesday. At least three people were killed in the South during the storms, according to an Associated Press story, including a Tennessee woman who was killed when a tree fell on her home.
The weather Tuesday produced at least one tornado in Rankin County, according to a tweet by the National Weather Service in Jackson. The tornado was seen crossing U.S. Highway 49 near Piney Woods.
