Another round of severe storms is expected Tuesday.A tornado watch is in effect for Holmes, Yazoo, Attala, Leake, Scott, Smith, Madison, Rankin, Hinds, Copiah, Simpson, Lincoln, Lawrence, and Jefferson Davis counties until 4 p.m. CDT. Adams, Claiborne, Franklin, Humphreys, Issaquena, Jefferson, Sharkey, & Warren counties are in a tornado watch until 6 p.m. This means the conditions across central Mississippi are favorable for producing strong to severe storms. While a tornado threat is possible across central Mississippi, the damaging wind threat across the region has increased. Widespread wind damage is possible from the metro to the south and towards the Pine Belt. Large hail is likely in the supercells that move through this afternoon. There could be up to two rounds of strong to severe storms through the day today. Ahead of the mainline, discrete storms could intensify rapidly, bringing the risk of damaging wind, hail, and a spin-up tornado.Clustered storms will begin to develop into a line across central Mississippi and the Pine Belt between 1-6 p.m. This line will then push into Alabama and parts of Georgia. The Rankin County Sheriff's Office confirmed a tornado was on the ground Tuesday morning in the southern part of the county. The tornado was spotted about 9:14 a.m. near Star and Piney Woods. The area was under a tornado warning at the time. Piney Woods Campus Officer David Williams caught a video of the twister in a tornado-warned storm this morning. As the storm moved east, there was a report of damage to a home in Braxton, with a possible injury, according to a National Weather Service message. The National Weather Service Weather Radio Transmitter in Bude has been confirmed down. Several counties in southwest Mississippi will not be able to receive updates through the weather radio. Make sure to have more than two ways of receiving messages in case a warning is issued for your area.
