Published May 3, 2021 5:35pm The National Quincentennial Committee showed a closer look at the P5000 Lapulapu commemorative banknote. The NQC on Saturday posted several photos of the actual paper bill bearing the image of Philippine hero. The quincentennial is an opportune time to promote appreciation of the world of our pre-colonial ancestors such as their way of life, worldview, and belief system based on historical sources. Understanding them helps us discern the process of our becoming and being Filipino, said the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP). Both the National Historical Commission of the Philippines and the NQC Secretariat collaborated in the development of the banknote.

Early last year, Assoc. Prof. Ghenwa Hayek signed on to become the interim director of the University of Chicago’s Gray Center. A month after she accepted the interim directorship, the COVID-19 crisis was officially declared a pandemic.
Uncertain times call for certain decision-making, and Hayek quickly embraced the challenge. The Richard and Mary L. Gray Center for Arts and Inquiry has long convened scholars and artists in the spirit of interdisciplinary collaboration but without in-person events, it would have rethink the nature of its mission.
