Jim Harrington has a lot of memories of César Chávez. As his attorney, Harrington represented the president of the United Farm Workers in many cases.
But it was a memory of Chávez’s lawsuit against two San Antonio radio personalities that brought back comedic memories of the leading civil rights figure.
It was when Ricci Ware and Judd Ashmore called Chávez a communist on the air, and Chávez sued them for defamation. Then-Mayor Henry Cisneros and Archbishop Patrick Flores served as witnesses.
In depositions for the case, Chávez was questioned about the many other lawsuits in which he was involved. One after another, Chávez was asked what happened in those cases.

“Kulay Sa Tubig,” the Philippines’ premiere watercolor competition, recently honored the country’s best aquarelle artists at the SM Megamall in Ortigas.
The by-invitation only event saw some 100 works from artists who have mastered the skill required to produce art using a medium considered to be one of the most difficult to master.
That Gallery Genesis was able to pull off this year’s edition together with SM Megamall is truly commendable. At a time when most have experienced a sense of loss, it is quite uplifting to know that there are artists who are still able to create and share beauty through their brushes, canvases, and watercolor paint.
