PESHAWAR: Heavy rains disrupted the power transmission system across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday night and Tuesday, causing hours long breakdown.
The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco)’s spokesperson said in a statement that inclement weather had affected 240 feeders after trees fell down on transmission lines that damaged cables. The statement said that power supply had been restored from 222 feeders while repair work on 18 others was under way.
It said that a crisis management cell had been established at Wapda House Peshawar to ensure smooth supply of electricity during eid and added that Pesco’s chief executive Engineer Jabar Khan would monitor the cell. The statement said that power supply from Kohat Road grid station had been resumed after installation of second MVA40 transformer.
PMLN lawmaker demands end to electricity load shedding in KP July 19, 2021
PESHAWAR: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) provincial spokesman and Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Ikhtiar Wali Khan has demanded an end to the unprecedented electricity load-shedding in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In an open letter to Federal Minister for Energy and Power, Ikhtiar Wali said that the consumers in KP, especially in Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan and Swabi districts, have been facing 16 to 17 hours power outages daily.
He said that sometimes electricity remains cut off for a whole night or day, besides routine load-shedding, putting the consumers in mental torture, especially the aged people, women and children.
Pesco asked to ensure uninterrupted power supply during exams

MARDAN: Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Mardan Chairman Imtiaz Ayub has urged officials of the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) to ensure uninterrupted power supply to examination halls to facilitate the students.
He said the government was aware of the weather situation in the country but there was no other option as they wanted to save precious time for the students for their future.
Imtiaz Ayub, a senior civil servant, visited examination centres in Mardan, Nowshera and Swabi districts where they had established 704 examination centres for exams of secondary school certificate (SCC).
Nepra jacks up power tariff by Rs2.97 per unit
Increase not applicable to residential consumers having consumption of up to 300 units
ISLAMABAD:
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on Friday increased electricity rates by Rs2.97 per unit on account of quarterly tariffs and levying surcharge.
The power regulator increased power tariff by Rs1.72 per unit for quarterly adjustments of power distribution companies and Rs1.25 per unit in electricity surcharge.
The ailing power sector companies will recover this amount from electricity consumers who are already paying their bills.
However, Nepra in a statement said that the consumer-end tariff would only increase by around Rs0.08/kWh except for commercial users. The increase for commercial consumers will be by Rs0.11/kWh with effect from September 30, 2021.
