Austin Stephanos and Perry Cohen s boat was found off the coast of Bermuda almost a year after they didn t return. The AustinBlu Foundation says the statue will not feature either of the boys, and will be in memory of all lives lost at sea.
Stephanos family commissioned the statue, which is intended to serve as a memorial for all those lost at sea and provide their loved ones with a place to visit and pay remembrance.
It is life-sized and was created by West Palm Beach firm Robert St. Croix Sculpture Studio & Foundry. It doesn t feature either Austin or Perry. This statue represents all of us. All of you, Blu Stephanos told the crowd gathered to see it unveiled.
Stephanos told The Palm Beach Post on Wednesday that he wanted the statue to be a monument to his gratitude to the Jupiter-Tequesta community for supporting his family in the years after his son s disappearance.
