When actress Kim Fields first joined the new Netflix sitcom “The Upshaws,” she assumed it would focus primarily on the comedic interplay between Mike Epps and Wanda Sykes and she’d just float in and out as the supportive wife.
But as she read through the episodes, Fields realized Regina Upshaw was the emotional ballast for the entire show.
Fields, 52, hasn’t been a regular on a U.S. sitcom in 23 years, since Fox’s “Living Single,” but returned with a vengeance. “The Upshaws” spent several days at No. 1 on Netflix’s trending list and received plaudits from critics and fans alike.

Baby. Don’t hate the player. Respect the game. And this game is harder than football, soccer, basketball, and tennis combined. The game is comedy and it’s not made for the faint of heart. Only funny soldiers with the heart of a lion and take no bullshit attitude of dolphins (yes, look it up) need to apply.

Bennie Upshaw doesn’t always get it right. In fact, he feels more accustomed to losing than winning.
In high school, he got his girlfriend, Regina, pregnant. Now, he’s married to Regina, with an adult son, Bernard, and two daughters, ages 6 and 13. Oh, and he has a 13-year-old son named Kelvin, from another woman, too a product of when he and Regina were “on a break.” It’s messy, to say the least.
