Once again, Netflix has a new offering that puts Hoosiers front and center.
Following in the footsteps of âStranger Thingsâ and âThe Prom,â âThe Upshawsâ is the latest Netflix original set in Indiana.
Unlike the others, âThe Upshawsâ ditches the trend of using fictional Indiana towns and drops the show right in Indianapolis proper. The Indy connection is made even stronger with native son Mike Epps serving as both leading man and executive producer.

âThe Upshawsâ feels like a bit of a throwback as soon as it starts. Itâs a multi-camera, laugh track-supported affair with episodes that come in just under 30 minutes.

The hilarious trio star as Bennie Upshaw (Epps), Regina Upshaw (Fields) and Lucretia Turner (Sykes) in the streamer’s newest offering, which follows Bennie and Regina as they navigate their blended, working class family in Indianapolis.
The duo are parenting their two young daughters (
Khali Spraggins and
Jermelle Simon) and a teenage son (
Diamond Lyons), whom Bernie fathered with another woman. Along the way, the couple also have to deal with Regina’s sassy sister, Lucretia.
