Friends and relatives of beloved Kansas Pastor Phillip Hett, 39, are now grappling with grief after he was killed along with his 10-year-old daughter, Abigail, in a crash on Sunday. The pastorâs 13-year-old daughter, Jillian, who was traveling with them at the time of the accident, survived.
âI donât think itâs really sunk in yet that theyâre gone,â family member Toby Peck told KWCH12. âItâs going to be really hard when it finally does sink in.â

Ohioans living in nursing homes, assisted living communities and other long-term care homes are socializing more, getting back to more typical activities and increasingly enjoying the fruits of the vaccination program.
“We’re getting ready to start our golf league. We’re getting ready to start our bocce ball league, our pickleball and shuffleboard leagues . we’re really getting back to doing that engagement with our residents, and everyone’s really excited about it,” said Jason Miller, VP of operations at Otterbein SeniorLife.

Recently, there have been both positive and troubling developments.
Most significantly, on Tuesday, April 13, Ohio officials heeded the recommendation of the CDC and the FDA and halted use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine in the state, after six nationally reported cases of severe blood clots, including one death, were linked to the vaccine.
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine addressed the issue at a briefing April 13. He said that after a call with the White House earlier in the day, he learned the recommendation was to help health providers treat any issues that arise from the shot.

When the neurologists first told Karen Fisher that her beloved father had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, they said eventually the disease could cause him to become violent and combative.
“He was such a kind, gentle person, I couldn’t imagine it,” says Fisher, who is an artist. “I wanted to preserve my memories of my father the way he was and so I began making paintings of him holding flowers.”
