The Bedford County Amateur Radio Society will hold its VEC Training-Tech Day today at the Bedford American Legion. The day begins with an FCC testing session about 9:30 a.m. where candidates will take their exam for an FCC license. BCARS is an authorized FCC Volunteer Examiner Organization. (VEC). After the test session, the group will demonstrate various equipment and antenna configurations that are used during its disaster communications exercises. Several of our newest licensees will be present. BCARS will also announce plans for the National âField Dayâ exercise scheduled for the weekend June 26-27 at the East Pavilion at Shawnee Park.
Bedford County broadcasting executive Lloyd Roach has been named the new National Association for Amateur Radio state government liaison officer for Pennsylvania.
His appointment comes after a lifetime of managing and owning radio stations throughout Pennsylvania and parts of New York State. In the course of his business career, Roach has gotten to know many of Pennsylvaniaâs legislators and said he looks forward to working with them along with the executive branch.
In addition to his broadcasting duties, Roach has been active in the Bedford County Amateur Radio Society and currently serves as its public information officer.
Amateur radio operators work closely with the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency as emergency communicators. That and other issues affecting the nearly 30,000 hams in Pennsylvania will be the focus of his activities as the ARRL government liaison. Roach works with PEMA as the Bedford County auxiliary communications officer and radio amateur civil em
