Over a month ago, one of the three rain shelters at
Cubbon Park came crashing down after a tree branch fell on it during heavy rain. Now, visitors at the park are alleging that the
Horticulture Department is not showing any interest in restoring the shelter.
The rain shelters were constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 20 lakh in 2014 amid opposition from environmentalists. Earlier, the Horticulture Department had defended its decision stating that the shelters would benefit visitors, especially senior citizens during monsoon. However, the department now seems to be lacking interest in fixing the damaged shelter located a few hundred meters away from the Chama Raja Wadiyar statue.
