Evidence Based Health Intervention Programs at the Y

Tue, 03/09/2021 - 11:30am In partnership with LincolnHealth, the Boothbay Region YMCA [and Central Lincoln County YMCA] offer the community evidence-based health intervention (EBHI) programs to assist in chronic disease management and prevention. We offer individuals the tools needed to achieve greater health and well-being through program-supported lifestyle intervention. We work closely with our community partners including schools, businesses, and other local health care providers on these programs. The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program is for those who are at risk for developing Type 2 Diabetes. By making small, measurable changes you can reduce your risk and help you live a happier, healthier life. This year-long program is led by a trained lifestyle coach who facilitates a small group either in-person or virtually. Topics include healthy eating, increasing physical activity, reducing stress, problem solving, and much more.

Erin Gray Talks About Summer Camp

Mon, 03/01/2021 - 12:45pm Summer camp has always been an important part of my life. From attending camp as a child, to becoming a counselor in training, to being invited onto the staff team as a teenager, and taking on leadership roles the older I became. I thought that summer 2014 was my last summer involved in camp; I was on track to graduate from college and needed a job, so I applied for a management position at a hospital in rural Maine as an Aquatics & Fitness Program Coordinator. My major in school was Mental Health and Human Services, but I still didn’t quite know what I wanted to do with that. Since I was familiar with aquatics having worked at camp for 5 summers on the waterfront staff, managing a pool seemed to be a good first step to launching myself into the work force.

Boothbay Region YMCA: A Community Catalyst for Good

Wed, 02/24/2021 - 10:45am In a 2011 speech to young leaders, Michelle Obama noted, “You may not always have a comfortable life and you will not always be able to solve all of the world s problems at once but don t ever underestimate the importance you can have because history has shown us that courage can be contagious and hope can take on a life of its own.” While this wisdom was shared long before the COVID-19 pandemic and the unprecedented events of the past year, it speaks to a wider sentiment that each and every one of us has both the power, and the responsibility, to make a greater impact in this world. It is a sentiment that the Y has always taken to heart, and is part of what makes this Y in particular such an important community resource in the Boothbay region.
