INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the second time in her career, Florida State alum Katrina Young is heading to the Olympic Games following a second place finish in the women’s 10-meter platform at the U.S. Olympic Trials with a total of 984.70at the IUPUI Natatorium. Heading into finals, Young was the leader with a total of 663.50 points after semifinals, in a four-way battle for two Olympic spots. She also posted the best prelim round at 347.55. Young came out of the gate strong in the first round, opening with a solid 67.50-scoring front 3 ½ somersault in order to keep a small cushion from Murphy Bromberg in second, Delaney Schnell in third and Jessica Parratto in fourth. In the second round, Young missed on her back 3 ½ somersault tuck, sending her to a solid third place, roughly 28 points away from a qualifying spot. EUGENE, Ore. – The Florida State women’s track and field team placed 14th at the 2021 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, finishing with a total of 18 team points inside Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
“Women kept grinding and managed to score a 14th place National finish,” said head coach Bob Braman. “We were just 2 points out of a Top 10 finish. Proud of this squad, we will make an even louder noise next year.”
The first event of the day was the 4x100 meter relay who scored early points for the Noles. Shian Hyde, Jayla Kirkland, Ka’Tia Seymour and Edidiong Odiong moved the baton around the track in a time of 43.06 in one of their most well-executed races of the season.
In the 1,500 meters, Maudie Skyring battled her way to a 12th place finish. Despite having her foot stepped on with a lap to go, forcing her to stop running, she still clocked a time of 4:21.04.
