KK and Tawau prison clusters account for nearly half cases | Daily Express Online

Published on: Wednesday, July 21, 2021 By: Anthea Peter Text Size: Kota Kinabalu: Sabah recorded another high of 657 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, with nearly 80 per cent stemming from both existing clusters and close contacts.  Sabah’s Covid-19 Spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun (pic) said the existing prison clusters in Kota Kinabalu and Tawau contributed 245 cases, accounting for 37.3 per cent of the daily caseload.  “Also contributing to the caseload are 199 close contacts which is 30.3 per cent. Both clusters and close contacts have contributed 516 cases, or 78.5 per cent of the daily caseload,” he said in a statement, Tuesday.  ADVERTISEMENT The caseload is also contributed by 71 cases from symptomatic screenings, 47 from targeted screenings and 23 from other screenings.

69 Pulau Gaya residents who escaped to avoid EMCO being tracked down

Pix for representational purpose only. -Bernama KOTA KINABALU: The 69 residents of Kampung Pondo, Pulau Gaya, near here, are being tracked down after fleeing the area to avoid the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO), said Sabah Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun. Masidi, who is also the Sabah government Covid-19 spokesman, said efforts to track down all the individuals involved were being conducted by members of the Pulau Gaya police station. “The residents are believed to have escaped while on the way to the Covid-19 quarantine and low-risk treatment centre. “Therefore, the Sabah government urges those who fled from the EMCO area in Kampung Pondo, Pulau Gaya, to return to the village immediately to ensure they do not infect other communities,” he said in a statement last night.

KOTA KINABALU: Ten out of the 69 people who fled from Kg Pondo, Pulau Gaya on Tuesday (July 6) have been recaptured at work. The 10, who were fishmongers and market workers, were arrested on Wednesday (July 7), said Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hazani Ghazali. He said those who fled were wanted as they were close contacts of Covid-19 patients and were supposed to follow health officials for further swab tests and quarantine. Hazani said the 69 were found to have gone missing when authorities went to bring them to a quarantine and treatment centre. “Security forces are searching for the rest of the escapees,” he said.
