Subscriber only One of the region s oldest establishments has come a long way since its origins as a respiratory clinic - but some things - like old-fashioned customer service - never change. Built in 1934, the Eungella Chalet building served as a respiratory hospital in its former life. Two local doctors ran the hospital, but it closed within the first 18 months of operation. When that didn t work out, the original land owner began running it as a hotel, laying the foundation of what the chalet is known for today. Epic views of the Pioneer Valley, great atmosphere and delicious food are just some things that spring to mind.

Internal walls more about 20m from the point of initial impact on the Walkerston club’s front entry were found to have moved as a result of the repeated crashes during the January 6 break-in.
The walls are cracked and have moved from the load-bearing pillars, suggesting the damage was more extensive – and expensive to repair – than first thought.
Wests Leagues Club general manager Kingsley Theiber said structural engineers had inspected the building last week, with a grim report. Wests Leagues Club has had to close its doors to the public after a failed break-in attempt in the early hours of Wednesday morning caused thousands of dollars worth of damage.

Subscriber only Police are warning a destructive rampage through a Walkerston sporting club may be the first domino in a series of attacks after the offender escaped custody. Mackay Criminal Investigation Branch officer in charge Detective Senior Sergeant Jack Savage said an investigation was continuing after a masked driver ploughed a stolen Toyota HiLux utility through the front doors of Western Suburbs Leagues Club. Sergeant Savage said the ute, stolen from an Eton property on the Peak Downs Highway, was used to break into the club just before 3am on Wednesday, January 6. Â Three minutes of CCTV footage captured the frenzied rampage, with the car smashing through the entrance hall 15 times before the masked offender left the ute.
