Rabbi stabbed in Brighton, recovering at local hospital

Email A rabbi was stabbed outside of the Shaloh House Chabad Center in Brighton, as confirmed by the Anti-Defamation League of New England. The victim, identified by the organization as Rabbi Shlomo Noginski, is said to have suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Boston police said in a press release. Police have since identified Khaled Awad, 24, of Brighton as the suspect in the stabbing. He’s being charged with assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, and assault and battery on a police officer, police said. His arraignment is set to take place in Brighton District Court.

Brookline Town Counsel Joslin Murphy retires suddenly

Wicked Local Brookline Town Counsel Joslin Ham Murphy retired suddenly this week after 28 years in office, first as associate town counsel and then as head of the town’s legal department. Her retirement was effective July 1, Town Administrator Mel Kleckner confirmed in an email to the TAB.  Kleckner said he will recommend a transition plan to the Select Board next Tuesday to bridge the gap while the town initiates and completes the hiring process for Murphy’s replacement.  Murphy, a lifelong Brookline resident, was a Brookline Police officer before her legal career, later working as an assistant district attorney for Middlesex County and then as an assistant attorney general in Massachusetts. She also served as the interim chief of police in Chelsea for a time.
