Pune: A five-year-old city girl has made a world record. She is Presha Khemani, daughter of a Pune-based chartered accountant and a homemaker. Presha has named 150 nations and their capitals after identifying their flags within 4.17 minutes.
Presha has always been a brilliant student. Sangeeta Khemani, her mother, told the Indian Express, “Apart from her academics, she excels in almost everything she sets her mind to. It was in the lockdown when a friend gave her an Atlas. As she flipped through its pages, the flags of various countries incited her curiosity. She used to ask me about the flags, the countries they represent and their capitals.”

Pune: Three people from Pimpri-Chinchwad tested positive for the fresh variant of Covid.
The three people from PCMC who tested positive for the fresh variant have returned from UK. Health officials told the Hindustan Times, “We have traced their contacts. No other person who came in contact with them has tested positive so far.”
All the 11 UK strain patients in the district and have been kept in single room isolation in designated centres according to the centre’s order. The fresh variant of Covid was first found in UK and is touted to be 70% more contagious than the existing one.
Pune: Maharashtra health minister Rajesh Tope on Friday said the state has requested the Union government to consider applying the indelible ink on the fingers of the beneficiaries receiving the Covid-19 vaccine on the lines of identifying the voters after polling.
The state conducted a fairly successful dry run across 114 centres on Friday, when the health machinery checked its preparedness to handle the Covid-19 vaccination.
“We have requested the Union health ministry to use the indelible ink during the vaccination programme, in the lines of which it is done during election. Once the beneficiary has been vaccinated, his finger should be inked. Even if the Union government doesn t approve it, we will follow it in Maharashtra,” Tope said. Swatee Kher

PUNE/MUMBAI: The education department will soon declare first-year junior college (FYJC) admissions on a first come, first served basis in Mumbai, Pune, Amravati, Aurangabad, Nagpur and Nashik. The second special round will end on January 9. By the end of the first special round, out of a total intake of 5.6 lakh, as many as 3.2 lakh students had confirmed their admissions; 2.4 lakh seats were still vacant.
Last year, the education department decided to do away with the first come, first served (FCFS) rounds and instead host additional merit-based admission rounds after three regular ones. A government resolution to the effect was issued on June 24, 2020.

PUNE: Pune has emerged the happiest city in Maharashtra in the India Cities Happiness Report 2020 compiled by Rajesh K Pillania, a professor of strategic management at Management Development Institute, Gurugram.
The city ranked 12th across India and has been classified a ‘new metro’. The study covered 13,000 people across 34 major cities of the country during October-November 2020.
Insights on factors to determine happiness were gathered from global thought leaders such as John F Hellwell, co-editor, the World Happiness Report, Richard Florida, leading urbanist, Padma Bhushan awardee M.B Athreya, known as the founder of the Indian management movement, Jamie Lerner, world renowned architect and urban planner, among others.
