Pune: Three people from Pimpri-Chinchwad tested positive for the fresh variant of Covid.
The three people from PCMC who tested positive for the fresh variant have returned from UK. Health officials told the Hindustan Times, “We have traced their contacts. No other person who came in contact with them has tested positive so far.”
All the 11 UK strain patients in the district and have been kept in single room isolation in designated centres according to the centre’s order. The fresh variant of Covid was first found in UK and is touted to be 70% more contagious than the existing one.

Pune: A Covid-positive man from the city will be tested for the mutated strain from UK. The person is asymptomatic and would be shifted to Naidu Hospital for more tests.
His samples would be sent to the National Institute of Virology in the city for genetic sequencing. The test could take two to three days. Dr Pradeep Awate, head of Maharashtra’s epidemiology cell said that while the Maharashtra public health department has got 3,000 names of people travelling from the UK since November 25, till yesterday, municipalities had tracked 116 people, 52 of whom have already taken RT-PCR tests.
