MASERU-ONCE in a while, Palo Kotelo packs his bags and takes a drive to Mohale’s Hoek, his rural home. There, he connects with his people and nature.
It’s here that his journey started in 1947 when he was born into a polygamous family that worked hard to send him and his siblings to school.
Now 73, Kotelo still has fond memories of his childhood and the lessons from his father, mother and other elders in the family are still with him.
He takes early showers to start his day and immerses himself in his work until dusk.

WATERBURY – Jill P. (Iava) Perrone, age 60, passed away unexpectedly with her family by her side on Friday, April 16, 2021.
Jill was born on Oct. 26, 1960, in Waterbury, daughter of the late Frank Jr. and Ann Shirley (Richards) Iava. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School and held a bachelor’s degree in biology from Southern Connecticut State University.
She worked in the medical field for more than 35 years, most recently for Hartford HealthCare at the Hospital of Central Connecticut as the senior technologist of microbiology.
Creative in many ways, Jill enjoyed interior design and jewelry making. She loved to travel to Martha’s Vineyard with her friends and browse flea markets. She also enjoyed feeding and watching Poppy’s birds.
Five people died of coronavirus in Zimbabwe today while there were 39 new cases and only 14 recoveries resulting in the number of active cases going up to 875.
The figures are being driven by new cases in Matebeleland South which had 17 new cases today. It dominated the rise last week following an outbreak of the pandemic at Sacred Heart High School near Esigodini where 117 pupils tested positive.
Cases in Harare continue to drop and are now at 398 while Bulawayo goes up and down and is now at 118. Cases in Matebeleland South rose to 271.
The vaccination programme continues to be moving smoothly with 13 116 getting their first dose today, increasing the number to 231 632, while 657 got their second dose raising the number of people that have been fully vaccinated to 30 496.

The State Fair Community College Foundation recently received $250,000 from Russell and Julie Childers for its capital campaign to help build the Olen Howard Workforce Innovation Center. The new building will expand the college’s capacity to meet the growing demand for technical workforce training and strengthen the communities it serves.
