Both editorials presented clear facts and details from the fire service experts of McGrath Consulting Group.
As I remember your coverage of this fire service issue began with a front-page story titled, Norwich s fire service more fractured than ever, officials say, way back on July 2, 2016 five years ago. Since then, you have provided us with dozens of related stories.
Thank you.
I must also give high praise to the two Norwich City Council members who stood up and voted to follow the advice of the experts in hiring a fire service director, Aldermen Joseph DeLucia and Derrell Wilson. The four others, both Democrats and Republicans, failed to do so. They continued to follow the mistakes of their predecessors of some 30 years ago in trying to appease a select few in hopes of benefitting themselves.

In the New London Day, there is a picture of the new Police Chief, Brian Wright (July 15). The fact that he is Black should be of no consequence to me or anyone else. However, I do wish him well, and sincerely hope he becomes the best chief that New London ever had.
Of course, it also reminds me of an incident from my days in the Coast Guard. Once, in the off-hours from a school I was attending, I visited the chiefs club, where they were having a retirement party for a chief who someone mentioned to me was Black. It was hard to tell from his grizzled, weather-beaten face that reflected his many years at sea, but what I really remember most is his retirement message, which was short and sweet. If I remember correctly, he said, I may not talk too good, and I may not look too good, and maybe everything I ever did wasn t perfect, but I m a damn good chief. And, as I shortly found out, he was.

In my humble opinion, the full-page advertisements encouraging The Day subscribers to follow “The Todt Family’s” pain, dismiss factual news and all editorial integrity.
Having delivered The New London Day for 13 years as a young boy and subscribing to the paper, as well as purchasing the newspaper throughout most of my adult life I regret the editorial decision to promote “a true crime podcast…a seemingly perfect family from Connecticut…as the subject of a grisly tabloid murder case.”
I remember when there was a “Neighbors” section featuring all good news. How about “good news” selling newspapers?
