You may need to change the batteries in your smoke detector or replace it entirely. Fire departments suggest you check that your smoke detectors are working properly every six months by using the test button. (WMBF) - Local fire departments and other agencies are reminding residents to check their smoke alarms and even change batteries in time for Daylight Saving Time. The CPSC also recommends testing alarms each month to make sure they’re working properly. Smoke and CO alarms are recommended to be installed in every level of a home and outside sleeping areas. Smoke alarms are further recommended by the CPSC to be installed in bedrooms as well.

Daylight Saving Time arrives at 2 a.m. Sunday. In addition to setting clocks ahead an hour, you are reminded to clean smoke detectors, change batteries on older models, check the expiration on newer enclosed units and test the devices.
