Georgetown school district HQ spared from major damage after propane tank explodes

The Georgetown City Fire Department was called to the J.B. Beck Administration and Education Center on Church Street at 12:24 p.m., said Charlie Cribb, the city’s fire chief. He said the fire at the Georgetown County School District headquarters was under control in about 20 minutes and no one was injured during the blaze. The fire started while a roofing company was working on the back wing of the building, Cribb said. Although the cause of the fire remains under investigation, Cribb said a propane tank on the roof exploded and some tar paper ignited.

(WMBF) - Local fire departments and other agencies are reminding residents to check their smoke alarms and even change batteries in time for Daylight Saving Time. The CPSC also recommends testing alarms each month to make sure they’re working properly. Smoke and CO alarms are recommended to be installed in every level of a home and outside sleeping areas. Smoke alarms are further recommended by the CPSC to be installed in bedrooms as well.
