You may need to change the batteries in your smoke detector or replace it entirely. Fire departments suggest you check that your smoke detectors are working properly every six months by using the test button. If the battery is dead, replace it, but if it is not working do not wait to replace the detector. Newer smoke detectors have panels on them to prevent tampering. Jillian Pikora Three different fire crews were called to the scene of an apartment fire Saturday night in East Donegal Township. Emergency Dispatch Services say the call to the fire came in around 7:40 p.m. Saturday to the 200 block of Rivermoor Drive.When fire crews arrived on scene they immediately searched for the start of the fire, which led them to a third floor apartment. Dispatch tells us the fire is thought to have started in the ceiling between two apartments.Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the two apartments within the building. Assistant Fire Chief with the Maytown Fire Department Michael Rhoads tells us, Nobody on the other side of the building was affected. Just the one side of the building. The damage on the inside is moderate damage to the apartment. No injuries were reported but two families were displaced by the fire and are currently staying with relatives.The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Jillian Pikora A small plane landed on the Pennsylvania Turnpike on Monday night.Emergency crews were called to Interstate 76 at mile marker 257.9, between Lebanon-Lancaster Exit 266 and Harrisburg East Exit 247, shortly after 6:30 p.m.Two right lanes were blocked by the Cessna plane. Drivers were asked to avoid the area and stay alert. The roadway reopened around 9 p.m.According to the PA Turnpike Commission, the pilot landed the plane in the right lane, headed westbound near the lawn service plaza in Conewago.After the plane landed it was struck by a tractor-trailer. The tail of the plane was hit but the nose of the plane received the bulk of the damage.Emergency dispatch services in both Dauphin and Lebanon counties sent crews to the scene.The Turnpike Commission says no injuries were reported. The cause of the emergency landing is under investigation.
