The Tennessee Department of Education has announced an opportunity this fall for all high school seniors to boost their scores on the ACT college entrance exam after taking the test the first time as a junior during the COVID-19 pandemic. Lewis Taking Post at Short Mountain School June 17, 2021 June 15, 2021 A long time Cannon County educator has been named principal of Short Mountain Elementary School. Director of Schools Freddy Curtis has named Candice Prater Lewis to the post. Candice Lewis The new principal has lived in Cannon County most of her life. She graduated from Short Mountain Elementary School and Cannon County High School. She is a graduate of Motlow State Community College and earned a Master in Instructional Leadership from Tennessee Technological University. After teaching 12 years, Lewis says she is looking forward to becoming the principal at Short Mountain Elementary School.  She said, “I encourage an environment where all stakeholders are involved in education by cultivating relationships with parents and students, which has proven effective in the 12 years I have taught.  It is my aspiration to use my experience and knowledge to make a difference as principal!”

Commissioner to Visit Cannon Classes April 15, 2021 th, 2021.  She will visit Woodland Elementary School and Cannon County High School.  Tennessee Department of Education Commissioner Dr. Peggy Schwinn While at Woodland Elementary School Commissioner Schwinn will visit students in classrooms and will focus on the implementation of the Governor’s Civics Mini Grant Program of $15,000.00 that the school received last year.  The purpose of these grants is to fund school and district initiatives that provide programs, resources, and professional development that emphasize life-long civic learning and an opportunity for schools and districts to earn the Governor’s Civics Seal in the2020-2021 and 2021-22 school year.
