Ryan “The Bug Man” Makes Insects Interesting By: Stephanie Kalina-Metzger July 22, 2021

Ryan Bridge has gone buggy and he doesn’t care who knows it. In fact, if there’s anyone who can put a positive spin on the world of pests, it’s Ryan “The Bugman” Bridge.
Bridge’s enthusiasm is hardly containable as he waxes rhapsodic about the world of insects. “I got into them when I was five, or six years old. All kids love bugs at that age, but they don’t always stick with it, including my own kids,” he said.
Bridge, a resident of Mount Wolf, credits the York County 4H Entomology Club for fueling his fervor. “That’s where I learned how to catch, kill, mount and display insects,” said Bridge, who has built a business and a career, around educating everyone from children to seniors about insects.
“Grandpa were you ever in a penitentiary like San Quentin or Leavenworth?”
“No, little Billy, but I did do hard time in ’20 and ’21 in a far worse slammer called COVID 19. It was worse than any gulag, Chinese prison camp or even Alcatraz. Maybe you’ve heard about the Bird Man of Alcatraz, well I was known as the Bug Man of COVID 19.”
“Why were you called the Bug Man of COVID 19 Grandpa?”
“Because I got so lonely and depressed looking through bars rather than going to them that I made a friend out of a Black Widow that visited my cell daily. I even taught it to do some tricks.”
I believe these Thai film posters range from the late Sixties to the early Eighties. Some have the English translation of the film title on them, such as The Bug Man, Play Boy and The Return of Dr Chang. But most of the film names cannot be translated into English, as they contain Thai slang words.
