Response rates increase for Pittsylvania County volunteer fire and rescue departments

DANVILLE â The response rate for fire and rescue agencies in Pittsylvania County went up in fiscal year 2021, despite a rise in EMS calls. County volunteer agencies increased rates of response to calls such as fires and medical emergencies by 14% overall, bringing the response rate among departments up to 89%, according to figures from the county. Officials credit increased spending toward fire departments from the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors, as well as oversight and guidance from the Fire and Rescue Commission and help from the countyâs Public Safety Department. âThe Fire and Rescue Commission has helped develop new rules, regulations, and policies that guide all county departments and ensure quality service to our citizens, all while embodying and showcasing our motto: âOne Service, One Team,ââ county spokesperson Caleb Ayers said.

Three injured in massive fire at NorthPointe Apartments in Pittsylvania County

Blairs Fire and Rescue responded to a report of the structure fire at 600 North Pointe Lane Saturday. First unit arrived to find heavy fire and smoke showing from the thirdÂ floor apartments. An attack was made into the apartments and the fire was brought under control in approximately one hour. There was extensive fire and water damage to several apartments. The Red Cross was called in to assist families with relocation. Blairs EMS treated two patients for smoke inhalation and transported one to SOVAH of Danville in stable condition.Â Blairs responded with two engines, a command vehicle and two ambulances.
