People were left fuming after being left with no water once again, on what was one of the coldest nights of the year. Residents in Billington in the Ribble Valley experienced yet another leak in their mains pipes, which Councillor Ged Mirfin says cut off the water supply to 235 houses from midnight on Monday. One resident who reported the issue as soon as it became apparent said he was waiting nine and a half hours for someone from United Utilities to come and fix the problem. The resident said: We have no water again. Obviously the strong words from Nigel Evans and Ged Mirfin have done nothing at no fault of their own.
A burst water main which left more than 400 properties without water has destroyed a garden wall, almost flooding a villager s home. On Friday evening one of the main pipelines on Whalley Road burst, flooding Jackie Goodlad s Chapel Rise garden and destroying her garden wall, in yet another incident in what is becoming a long and drawn out saga between United Utilities and residents of Billington in the Ribble Valley, For months now, people living in the village have been plagued by high water pressure issues, leaking pipes and burst water mains. The problems have been so disruptive that even the local MP, Nigel Evans has waded in on the issue, which United Utilities insist they are trying to fix.
We’re sorry for the inconvenience and hope to have your taps flowing again very soon. We’ll provide further updates when we know more about what is causing the problem. The statement was then updated just before 7pm, with United Utilities saying leakage engineers were being sent out to the area to try and fix the problem. It read: A leak on Whalley Road affecting customers in BB7, has been spotted and reported to us. We’ve been out to investigate and found this to be the cause for some of you having no water or just a trickle.
