Offaly residents annoyed over no advance notice of water cutoffs

A few weeks ago water was cut off in Birr homes for several hours without advance warning );

People in Birr and Crinkill were recently annoyed when their tap water was cut off for several hours without any warning.
Councillors welcomed the fact that the water system in the town is being upgraded but they asked for advance communication with the homes to be affected.
Cllr John Clendennen told the April meeting of Birr Municipal District that the practice of cutting people s water off without advance notice has to stop.
New entrance proposed for Birr Castle

A new entrance to Birr Castle will be created, subject to planning permission being given, at the end of Green Street, a public meeting was told last week.
During the first public meeting of local community group Birr 20/20 in over a year (which was held on Zoom), the new Director of Services for Birr Municipal District, Stephane Duclot, outlined some of the Council s plans for the town s physical space in the months to come.
He said the planning stage for work on Green Street is well advanced.
Stephane referred extensively to the updated Public Realm Plan which is a blueprint for physical development in the town.
Fears that Offaly s water service will become more centralised

The future of Offaly s water and sewage service is currently with the Workplace Relations Commission. People are worried that the service will become more centralised. );

A number of local Councillors are worried that the running of Offaly s water and sewage system will become more centralised.
Mary Hussey of the environment section of Offaly County Council told the April meeting of Birr Municipal District that a service level agreement has been in place between Irish Water and the local authority since 2014 whereby Irish Water is in charge of the county s water and sewage services but it extensively uses the local knowledge and hardworking approach of the local authority s outdoor staff.
Offaly County Council firmly focussed on global warming threat

With an eye on the threat posed by global warming Offaly County Council is currently implementing a Climate Action Plan which contains a number of measures to improve Offaly s global warming profile.
Speaking during the April meeting of Birr Municipal District, Mary Hussey of the Council s Environment section said the Climate Action Plan is continuing to be embedded in nine sections of the Council.
