Mumbai: No new-year eve bash beyond 11.30 pm; BMC not to relax deadline for restaurants and bars

New Year’s Eve will be a muted affair this year as the
BMC has decided not to relax the 11.30 pm deadline on all
hotels, restaurants,
bars and food courts.
Keeping in mind the Covid-19 threat, the BMC had imposed this strict deadline since October 5 and had allowed hotels and restaurants to function at only 33 per cent capacity. But many restaurants were flouting the rule. From December 13, the BMC has cracked the whip and started a major drive in pubs and restaurants, by fining patrons who were not wearing masks. The BMC has also issued show-cause notices to many restaurants and gymkhanas for serving patrons beyond the 11.30 pm deadline.
