BMC has retracted its statement and clarified that there was no action taken against the establishment during a late-night check on December 13.
In a report on December 16, ‘No NY bash beyond 11.30 pm’, Mirror reported that the civic body had levied a fine of Rs 9,800 on Hotel Pritam for hosting 120 patrons without masks at around 1am. The BMC had also said that the hotel was served a show cause notice.
The Centre and the Shiv Sena-led MVA government in Maharashtra are locked in a tussle over ownership of the land at Kanjurmarg.

hotels, restaurants,
bars and food courts.
Keeping in mind the Covid-19 threat, the BMC had imposed this strict deadline since October 5 and had allowed hotels and restaurants to function at only 33 per cent capacity. But many restaurants were flouting the rule. From December 13, the BMC has cracked the whip and started a major drive in pubs and restaurants, by fining patrons who were not wearing masks. The BMC has also issued show-cause notices to many restaurants and gymkhanas for serving patrons beyond the 11.30 pm deadline.

275 patrons were found flouting norms at the Bombay Adda bar
MUMBAI: In the first such action against pubs, the BMC on Sunday filed an FIR under Sec 188 of the IPC (disobedience of order duly promulgated by a public servant) against the manager of Bombay Adda in Santacruz (W) over violation of Covid-19 norms.
Sources said the pub, which was fined Rs 30,000, had 275 patrons, most of them not wearing a mask, post-midnight.

It is worrying that an increasing number of establishments are seeing big crowds without their patrons following the mask mandate. The authorities must hold these places and even the patrons accountable. As experts have made clear, irresponsible conduct could result in an escalation in coronavirus cases and possibly a second wave as well, which all of us in the city must do our utmost to keep at bay.
