Faculty Senate passes resolution to update academic integrity code

The Faculty Senate unanimously passed a resolution Friday to update the Code of Academic Integrity, which would make the language more “restorative” while still holding students accountable for violations. Christy Anthony, the director of the Office of Students Rights and Responsibilities, said the changes allow officials to respond to lower-level academic integrity cases in a more “educational” way while also increasing consequences for repeated academic integrity violations. The changes to the code, which the Student Association Senate approved last week, will be implemented in July if approved by the Board of Trustees and following a “comprehensive rollout plan” of the changes in May, the resolution states.

Commencement to be held virtually with later in-person ceremony

Students will graduate virtually this May and officials will invite the Class of 2020 and the Class of 2021 to in-person Commencement ceremonies on the National Mall at a later date, according to a release Thursday. University President Thomas LeBlanc, Provost Brian Blake and Vice President for Student Affairs Cissy Petty said they will host the in-person ceremonies when “it is safe to do so,” but the University-wide and school-based commencement ceremonies will be held online this spring as the coronavirus pandemic persists. The University will also stylize the Foggy Bottom Campus with commencement branding and mail celebratory packages to graduates, according to the release.

Online programs rankings hold steady during pandemic

The ranking placed the School of Nursing’s online master’s in nursing program seventh, the School of Engineering and Applied Science’s online master’s in engineering program 14th and the School of Business’s online master’s in business administration 20th nationwide. A majority of GW’s online programs saw slight improvements in their rankings this year, according to data provided by officials at the Office of Institutional Research and Planning.
