Funding for Badenhausen Branch of Massena Public Library ends in December

BRASHER FALLS â Funding for the Badenhausen Branch of the Massena Public Library in downtown Brasher Falls is set to expire at the end of the year, and unless town of Brasher officials pick up the cost, its doors could be closed. The library, located in the former Boothe Hardware Store, opened its doors on Dec. 11, 2014. Itâs named in honor of the late Dr. D. Susan Badenhausen, a retired physician, who donated $55,000 a year for at least three years for the library. Dr. Badenhausen died on Sept. 23, 2018. Library officials announced in June 2016 that Dr. Badenhausen had pledged to continue her support of the Badenhausen Branch Library for another five years at the increased funding of $65,000 a year.

Potsdam Holiday Fund receives $1,000 donation from Stewart s Shops

POTSDAM The Potsdam Holiday Fund received a $1,000 donation from Stewart’s Shops through the company’s Holiday Match Program, which benefits children’s organizations directly within the communities where Stewart’s Shops are located. All funds collected from Stewart’s customers, as well as the amount Stewart’s matches, stay in the communities that contributed to the program. Above, Julie Terrance, left, manager of Stewart’s Shops on Market Street in Potsdam, presents a check to Nancy Griffin of the Potsdam Holiday Fund. In December 2020, the Potsdam Holiday Fund provided warm winter clothing, food and gifts for 186 families, including 475 children and 124 senior citizens living in Potsdam and the surrounding communities. The communities served by the program include Potsdam, Hopkinton, Nicholville, Brasher Falls, Chase Mills, Fort Jackson, West Stockholm and Winthrop.

NORFOLK: Dennis âDennyâ W. Manchester of State Highway 56, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday afternoon April 4th, 2021. Dennis was 69 years old. The family has entrusted arrangements to the care and expertise of the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena. A Massena Elks Lodge Memorial Service will be held privately for the family at the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena with interment to follow immediately after memorial services, in Pitcairn Cemetery with Barbara Manchester officiating. A Celebration of Life will be held the following day, Wednesday April 14th, 2021 at the Massena Elks Lodge No. 1702 located at 20 Bower Street, Massena from 2:30 to 4:30 PM. Those who will be in attendance are required to wear face coverings, and practice social distancing.
