Mallory Avenue and Riverport Road. A suspect led a Southaven officer on a chase to the area and then shot the officer before driving the squad car away. A Georgia man was arrested Tuesday evening, authorities say, after he shot a Southaven police officer in South Memphis, stole the officer s squad car, and fled to Arkansas.

More Arkansas State Police said they believe the vehicle was taken at the shooting scene. A trooper spotted it around 1:30 p.m. (the local time there) and tried to stop the driver along Interstate 40. However, they said Dimmett took off and then abandoned the vehicle. Hours later, authorities said he was taken into custody by Arkansas State Police, St. Francis County Sheriff’s Department, the FBI, and the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission and others who participated in the search.
