Two boys on the shoreline of the South Saskatchewan River in Saskatoon were fortunate Brad Pilon was nearby when one of them slipped into the water. Pilon went into the water to retrieve the child, swimming them both back to safety. The video was recorded by Pilon s wife, Ashley and released by Medavie Health Services West.
Brad Pilon believes everything came down to timing during a Saturday river rescue on the South Saskatchewan River.
He was on mile six of eight, running along Saskatoon’s Meewasin Trail with his wife and two friends on bicycles, when things took a turn.

An eight-year-old boy in Saskatoon is alive because Brad Pilon went out for a Saturday afternoon jog.
Pilon and his wife Ashley were running on the Meewasin trail around 5:30 p.m. when, according to Medavie Health Services, Brad heard screaming coming from the South Saskatchewan River.

An eight-year-old boy, who had been playing along the riverbank with his seven-year-old cousin, had slipped and fallen into the water. The current from the river quickly pulled the eight year old away from the shoreline. Brad said he heard the boy screaming that he couldn’t swim and then saw him briefly go under the water.

A Saskatoon man pulled a boy who couldn t swim to shore from the South Saskatchewan River on Saturday.
Brad Pilon and his wife, Ashley, were taking part in a fitness challenge that had them running four miles every four hours for 48 hours. At around 5 p.m. they had run just over 51 km in a 28-hour span, and they were returning from the eighth leg of the challenge.
