Chigwell and Hainault Synagogue rabbi Rafi Goodwin was attacked in Limes Avenue, Chigwell, at about 1.15pm on Sunday, May 16. Police have said anti-Semitic language was used during the attack, however the Jewish News and Jewish Chronicle have reported the rabbi was not targeted in retaliation to recent events in the Middle East and that it was a road rage incident. Two teenagers reportedly stepped out in front rabbi Rafi Goodwin’s car while he was driving and shouted anti-Semitic abuse before damaging his vehicle.

The challenge started on Saturday morning and finished on Monday. Fundraisers, aged between 16 and 65, were joined by Epping Forest MP Dame Eleanor Laing and Chigwell Parish Council chairman Pranav Bhanot for the start of the marathon challenge. The Chigwell participants of the Cycle to Save Lives India Covid Appeal covered a distance of more than 7,600 kilometres, the distance between London and New Delhi. Money raised will help the emergency Covid relief effort in India and support relief work undertaken by BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha in India. Dame Eleanor said: I was delighted to be able to support such a magnificent fundraising effort.

Photo: Pranav Bhanot Two men were arrested on suspicion of kidnap and false imprisonment in Chigwell yesterday. Metropolitan Police officers were called to Brook Way shortly before 4pm (Sunday, April 11) after a “vehicle of interest” was spotted in the area, Scotland Yard has said. A heavy police presence, including armed officers and a police helicopter were reported to have descended upon the area, according to eyewitness, and parish councillor, Pranav Bhanot.
