YANKTON – Pierre Governor girls basketball picked up its offense late in the first quarter Friday and breezed to a 51-22 win over the Yankton Gazelles at the Summit Center.
Leading just 6-4 late in the opening period, Pierre (6-6) then scored the next 13 points and built a 28-9 halftime lead.
Layni Stevens and Caytee Williams led the Governors with 10 points each. Remington Price, Ayvrie Kaiser and Ryann Berry each scored seven.
On Tuesday, the Governors will host Mitchell at the Riggs High Gym. Pierre lost in Mitchell 46-36 on January 14. ABERDEEN – Pierre Governor boys basketball had its three-game winning streak end Tuesday with a 70-60 loss at Aberdeen Central.
Harrison Reede led four Golden Eagle double-figure scorers with 21 points, including five three-pointers.
Lincoln Kienholz led Pierre (4-6) with 25 points, three three-pointers, nine rebounds, four assists and two steals. Jackson Edman had another double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds. Jack Merkwan added 10 points.

PIERRE – A great start gave Pierre Governor girls basketball an early nine-point lead Tuesday over top-ranked Aberdeen Central, but the Golden Eagles rallied for a 61-50 win at the Riggs High Gym.
Pierre scored 21 first-quarter points and led by as much as nine points.
Melanie Jacobs led Aberdeen Central with 20 points, hitting six three-pointers.
Caytee Williams paced Pierre (5-6) with 19 points. Remington Price added 14.

BOX ELDER – A 27-point second quarter broke open a tight game Tuesday as the Pierre Governor girls raced past the Douglas Patriots 60-29 at Whitehead Gym.
Pierre (5-5) led by just 7-6 late in the first quarter, but then outscored Douglas 27-5 in the second quarter to take a 36-11 halftime lead.
Remington Price led the Governors with 16 points. Jessica Lutmer hit four three-pointers for her 12 points. Caytee Williams and Reese Terwilliger each scored six points.

MITCHELL – Tight fourth-quarter defense by the Mitchell Kernels led to a 13-0 run Thursday and Mitchell eased past the Pierre Governor girls 46-36 at the Corn Palace.
After the game was tied at 33-33 through three quarters, Mitchell scored the first 13 points of the fourth quarter. Earlier, Pierre (4-5) had held Mitchell to two second-quarter points.
Macy Kempf led Mitchell with 13 points. Caytee Williams had 11 for the Governors, with Remington Price and Hannah Sazue adding seven each.
