MITCHELL – Tight fourth-quarter defense by the Mitchell Kernels led to a 13-0 run Thursday and Mitchell eased past the Pierre Governor girls 46-36 at the Corn Palace.
After the game was tied at 33-33 through three quarters, Mitchell scored the first 13 points of the fourth quarter. Earlier, Pierre (4-5) had held Mitchell to two second-quarter points.
Macy Kempf led Mitchell with 13 points. Caytee Williams had 11 for the Governors, with Remington Price and Hannah Sazue adding seven each.

PIERRE – Pierre Governor girls basketball rallied for a 46-45 win over Rapid City Central Saturday at the Riggs High Gym.
A 9-0 run in the third quarter sent the Governors to a nine-point lead before Central scored the next 13 points. Then, Pierre scored 10 straight, including a three-pointer by Hannah Sazue with just over two minutes remaining that gave Pierre (4-4) the lead to stay. Remington Price scored 16 for the Governors and hit three three-pointers. Caytee Williams scored 11. Jordon Heckert led Central with 16.

STURGIS – Caytee Williams scored 16 points and Remington Price added 15 Friday as the Pierre Governors earned their first win for new girls head basketball coach Kirk Beebout, 48-36 over Sturgis at the West Gym at Sturgis Brown High School.
Pierre (1-2) committed 20 turnovers and was held to 31 percent shooting by the Scoopers’ vexing matchup zone, but Sturgis made 26 turnovers themselves. Price was 10-of-10 at the foul line and Williams four-of-four as the Governors made 21 of 29 free throws.
Hannah Sazue added seven points and Ayvrie Kaiser had six.

HURON – Again, the Pierre Governor girls fell short after playing well.
Tuesday, Huron held off Pierre 72-71 at Huron Arena. With Pierre (0-2) leading 69-67 and having the ball, Isabella Shreeve stole an inbounds pass and fed Heaven Gainey for a layup and three-point play for a go-ahead free throw with 26.5 seconds left. Huron later hit two free throws and Caytee Williams hit a shot just before the final buzzer for the Governors for the last points of the game.
Tenley Buddenhagen led Huron with 22. Remington Price led Pierre with 23 and hit five three-pointers. Hannah Sazue had four threes and 14 points. Ayvrie Kaiser also scored 14. Williams scored 13.
