BBMP wants to suspend teachers on contract

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has proposed suspending the services of around 600
teachers working on
contract basis. These teachers have been working at BBMP’s primary and high schools. Keeping in mind the bleak chances of
schools reopening before October or even December this year,
BBMP Special Commissioner (Finance) has forwarded this proposal to the higher authorities for approval.
However, this decision has also welcomed criticism. “It is unfair and inhuman to terminate contract teachers while the BBMP is generously spending huge amounts on the deputed engineers working in various departments. The BBMP had utilised the contract teachers for covid-related work and six to eight of them succumbed to the virus. I have appealed to the BBMP administrator not to terminate the teachers
