Imax Corp. Chief Executive Richard Gelfond who provides cinemas with some of the biggest screens out there hasn’t been to the movies since the COVID-19 pandemic shuttered the film business nearly a year ago. But now that he’s vaccinated, the New York-based executive is planning his return as theaters there reopen.
“I’m starting to dream of re-experiencing movies very quickly,” he said by phone last week while on vacation in Puerto Rico.
Cassandra Jenkins is stomping through a foot and a half of snow in Central Park, looking for what she calls the âperfect plop-portunity.â Plopping is, for the unfamiliar, a form of therapy Jenkins has invented that involves throwing yourself into a particularly inviting swath of snow to cool off mid-walk. Once she finds a satisfactory clearing, she falls to the ground, like a tree cut down at its base. She makes the frigid act look fun, and I canât help but join her. We stay plopped in the snow for a half hour, looking up at spindly branches that are supporting tiny birds and a squirrel doing nonstop somersaults.

Mogwai are also at number one on the main UK chart.
It leads an entirely new Top 5, made up of other debuts from Tindersticks, Grandaddy, Ricky Warwick and The Hold Steady, whilst Fleet Foxes remain at #12 after the physical release of Shore.
It’s now nine years since The Official Charts Company launched this chart as vinyl sales surged during the last decade, a trend which continued in 2020 as the format grew for the 13th consecutive year. It is compiled from the best selling albums at 100 of Britain’s leading independent music shops.
