Civic body employees on strike today | Ludhiana News

Ludhiana: If you are planning to get your work done at municipal corporation office on Thursday, reschedule your visit. For, all the MC employees will be on a strike in support of other department unions’ protest against the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations. They will also take part in a rally at Patiala Dana Mandi organised by state-level unions. The Municipal Employees’ Sangharsh Committee members met mayor Balkar Sandhu and MC commissioner Pardeep Sabharwal and handed over a memorandum as notice before the strike on Wednesday. They assured them that no essential service will be affected. Municipal Employees’ Sangharsh Committee president and MC secretary Jasdev Sekhon said, “We are supporting the state-level unions and will go to Patiala for the protest rally. The employees and the officials will not work on Thursday. But essential services will not be affected.”

Ludhiana: The incessant rain left many roads inundated in the city on Wednesday. Even as the municipal corporation officials claim to have solved the problem of waterlogging in many areas, they have failed to address it near their Zone C office at Gill Road. The worst hit areas were Chandigarh Road, Fountain Chowk, Gill Road, Jamalpur and Hambran Road, among others. Due to the construction of an elevated road at Ferozepur Road, commuters are forced to take diversions. The showers made them drive through stretches riddled with potholes full of rainwater. Dr Premjit Singh, a resident of Chandigarh Road, said, “Even light rain is enough to flood Chandigarh Road. I had raised the matter with the CM office and my complaint was marked to the MC officials, but it has not been effectively addressed.”

Illegal colonies, water crisis, poor roadwork rock MC s house meet | Ludhiana News

LUDHIANA: The issues of illegal colonies, water scarcity and shoddy roadwork dominated municipal corporation’s general house meeting at Guru Nanak Bhawan on Wednesday. As the councillors demanded immediate action, mayor Balkar Sandhu and MC commissioner Pardeep Sabharwal directed the officials to remove illegal colonies at the earliest. BJP councillor Sonia Sharma said, “I have been raising the issue of illegal colonies in the ward for the past two years. I had first lodged a complaint on September 19, 2019, but to date no action has been taken. Water supply in the ward got affected as load on the amenities increased.” Echoing her, Akali Dal councillor Jaspal Giaspura said, “Around 40 illegal colonies have mushroomed in wards 30 and 31, but building branch officials remained mum. Free rabies vaccine for stray, registered pet dogs in city | Ludhiana News

Ludhiana: The municipal corporation authorities have decided to make the city rabies free by providing free vaccines to stray and registered pet dogs. The members of the finance and contracts committee gave a nod to the proposal. The civic officials said last year, post-mortem of three stray dogs had revealed rabies. The MC would take help from the animal husbandry department to organise special vaccination camps, which would be first started in walled localities. Officials said there were veterinary hospitals in various areas where camps could be organised. All the stray dogs will be covered in the drive and registered pets will also be given free vaccination.
