Supervisors Review 2021 Redistricting Guidelines By Joseph Schany - | Apr 13, 2021 by Joseph Schany Following the census every ten years, district boundaries are redrawn from which electors choose each of Iowa’s four United States Representatives and 150 state legislators. At Tuesday’s regular session meeting of the Palo Alto County Supervisors, an overview on the process of redistricting/reprecincting was reviewed. “They start by drawing your districts at the federal level,” explained Carmen Moser, Palo Alto County Auditor, “and then they draw down to your state, and then it goes to cities, and then to counties. Every county must file even if there are no changes.”

Board Approves Property Tax Levy, Discusses COVID Vaccination Clinic By Joseph Schany - | Feb 25, 2021 by Joseph Schany The Palo Alto County Board of Supervisors gathered Tuesday morning for a regular session meeting to discuss ongoing county business. Sarah Strohman, Director of Palo Alto County Public Health, was not available for this week’s meeting. In lieu of speaking to the Board, Strohman sent a brief message explaining that last week’s COVID vaccine clinic for the county’s elderly population, originally scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 17, had been canceled due to not receiving the expected shipment of vaccine because of inclement weather.

Now Is The Time For Public Safety Center By Staff | Feb 25, 2021 To the Editor: I am asking for the citizens of Palo Alto County to support the upcoming bond referendum for the new Palo Alto County Public Safety Center. I have worked for the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office since July 2005. Over that time period, there has been a lot of changes at the Sheriff’s Office. One thing however remains the same, the current structure housing the Jail, Communication Center, and the Sheriff’s Office. The original Jail was built in 1908 and is very outdated and not a safe environment for the inmates it houses. The current jail, has conduit exposed, water lines exposed, and radiators in the cells. All of these things, along with actual bars, create a number of concerns for our inmates. Over the years we have had conduit pulled down, water lines ripped down, and even a radiator pulled off of the wall. All of these things create hazards and potential liabilities for the count
