Two to Receive UW Honorary Degrees | News | University of Wyoming

May 3, 2021 Jim Magagna The University of Wyoming will confer its highest award, the honorary doctoral degree, upon two individuals who will be recognized during UW commencement ceremonies May 14-15. They are Jim Magagna, the longtime executive vice president of the Wyoming Stock Growers Association and advocate for Wyoming ranchers; and recently deceased Northern Arapaho elder Crawford White Eagle Sr., who will be honored posthumously. They each will receive the Doctor of Humane Letters degree. UW alumni, current or former trustees and faculty members are eligible to nominate individuals for honorary degrees who embody the university’s high ideals; exemplify the values of excellence, service and integrity; and possess distinguished accomplishments in their professions, public service or service to humanity. Submissions are referred to a joint committee of trustees and faculty members, which forwards recommendations to the full Board of Trustees for approval.

Officials Report About 24 Percent of All Sweetwater County Residents Received COVID-19 Vaccine

SWEETWATER COUNTY With around 24 percent of Sweetwater County’s total population receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, local health officials are still encouraging residents to continue receiving the vaccine. During an informational COVID-19 meeting with local officials, industry personnel and media representatives, Sweetwater County Public Health officer Dr. Jean Stachon said vaccinations will be the key to keeping the COVID-19 virus under control. “COVID’s not over,” Dr. Stachon said. “Our numbers and numbers across country’s are looking better than they were months ago. I think vaccination is where most of our emphasis is going on now to protect ourselves. Particularly, since a lot of the orders from the governor have been lifted.”

Before that, he served as director of the Wyoming Office of State Lands and Investments and Office of Federal Land Policy. He also chaired the Wyoming Oil and Gas Conservation Commission during that time.

Tigers Add Another Win in Thursday Matchup Against Wolves

GREEN RIVER The Rock Springs High School (RSHS) soccer teams showed out on Thursday night against Green River High School (GRHS), combining and outscoring the Wolves 13-1. In their previous matchup in Rock Springs, it was the Tigers who won both games against the Wolves, which resulted in a combining total score of 16-1. Rock Springs once again dominated in the second matchup of the year, winning both games. The Lady Tigers and Lady Wolves played first, with Rock Springs securing an 11-0 victory. Rock Springs’ put up six goals in the first half and another five in the second half. The Tigers improve to 9-2 on the season, while the Wolves fall to 2-9.
