CASPER The Wyoming high school 4A state track and field meet was held over the weekend in Casper, with a total 16 teams in attendance.
Both Rock Springs High School (RSHS) and Green River High School (GRHS) sent teams to the three-day meet to close out the 2021 season.
The Green River girls team celebrated a state champion in Lillian Munoz who took first in the 300 meter hurdles. Munoz finished with a time of 45.71, just ahead of Thunder Basin’s Gabby Mendoza. Munoz’s victory contributed 10 team points for the Lady Wolves.

The GRHS boys team also saw success. Hayden Roberts took second in the boys high jump and third in the 300 meter hurdles. Teammate Trevor Brangham also took fourth in the boys high jump. Cole Murray also chipped in a few team points for the Wolves with a seventh place finish in the boys discus throw.
United States Marine Michael T. Schultz of Rock Springs graduated from basic military training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California, on April 16.
Graduation took place at the completion of the 13-week transformation including training drills, marksmanship, basic combat skills, and Marine Corps customs and traditions.
The training is some of the most rigorous training the United States has to offer. He is now part of the few who can claim the title of United States Marine.

Schultz is the son of Scott Schultz and Amy Lucy of Rock Springs. He is a 2020 graduate of Rock Springs High School.
GILLETTE As the inaugural 2021 softball season comes to a close, eight teams are competing in Gillette in the first 4A state softball title this weekend.
Rock Springs High School (RSHS) went into the tournament as the fourth seed coming out of the west division. The Lady Tigers finished the regular season 6-5, winning four of the six games at home.

ROCK SPRINGS Rock Springs High School (RSHS) senior Jordyn Petty signed her national letter of intent to join the University of Nebraska-Omaha (UNO) Maverick dance team.
Petty, joined by her family, celebrated her decision on Monday afternoon as she inked the paperwork to make her choice official.
Petty first began dancing at the age of two and hasn’t stopped since. She has been a part of a successful RSHS dance team and looks to continue that success at UNO.

When it came down to choosing a college that fit her best, UNO was the one that made the most sense for her goals. The Maverick dance team won the national title this year and after talking with UNO’s head coach, she knew it was where she wanted to go.
