According to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, WNV was detected in mosquitoes collected in Burlington July 27. The virus, which can cause fever and flu-like symptoms, is most commonly transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected mosquito.
Truck-mounted spraying is scheduled to begin Aug. 3 through the East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project, between dusk and 11:30 p.m., in the vicinity of Lexington Street, Pleasant Street, Partridge Lane, Glendale Road and Eugene Road. Spraying will also occur on Wilmington Road, Drake Road, Hart Street, Sarah Street, Sandra Avenue, Irene Street, and Phyllis Avenue.
