Foster home to open May 21

After delays in opening a foster home for Guam s children in need, a facility is set to open on May 21.
Department of Public Health and Social Services Deputy Director Terry Aguon said I Guma Mina åse Sister Mary Brigid Perez, R.S.M. shelter in Barrigada Heights is preparing to open its doors. We look forward to it, he said.
He said the upcoming weeks will allow agencies to prepare for the children who will stay there. It s really coming together very beautifully, and it s a showcase and something to be very proud of, Aguon said.
Sen. Frank Blas Jr. has written the U.S. Small Business Administration requesting that Guam be exempt from location requirements on small business disaster loans.
The $10,000 Economic Injury Disaster loan follows a similar program made available to business owners in April of 2020, but the targeted program now requires that businesses be located in low-income areas.
A mapping tool was provided by the Small Business Administration to assist local business owners in determining whether they qualify. Concerns over inconsistencies in the mapping tool, which Del. Mike San Nicolas has stated is based on Census data from 2010, were what prompted Sen. Frank Blas, Jr. to write the SBA.
