Palmer Police Respond to Swift Water Rescue Saturday Night, One Fatality Due To Floodwaters Palmer Police Rescue Family From Floodwaters From Palmer Police Department: Around 8:57 pm on May 22, 2021, Palmer police received a call for service regarding a male, female, and infant trapped in swift floodwaters just south of the 258-mile marker on the service road. They were all on the roof of the vehicle awaiting help. With the assistance of Ennis Fire Rescue T191, the family was brought to safety without injuries. During the rescue at 9:25 pm, a Palmer police officer called over the radio that another vehicle attempted to drive through the swift water and the currents swept it away. The water carried the vehicle from the west side of IH45 to the east side of IH45 in less than 30 seconds. Palmer buying police body cameras with federal grant Updated Dec 16, 2020; PALMER – The Police Department will purchase 30 body cameras for all of its full time officers. Palmer Police Chief Christopher Burns successfully applied for a $31,200 federal grant to pay for the new equipment, Town Manager Ryan McNutt told the council at Monday’s meeting. The idea of equipping officers with cameras was first researched in depth by the department in 2018. The money to purchase them, from a US Department of Justice program, called Edward J. Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant. It is named in memory of Byrne, a 22-year-old New York City police officer, who was shot to death while on duty in 1988.
