Blockbuster program for Cairns Festival return
Cairns Festival returns this year with a blockbuster 10-day program bookended by the traditional Grand Parade on the Cairns Esplanade and Carnival on Collins at the Cairns Botanic Gardens.
With a fresh new look and a host of live events, multiple venues across the city will be activated, including the Court House, Munro Martin Parklands (MMP), Esplanade, Cairns Performing Arts Centre (CPAC), Tanks Arts Centre, and the Botanic Gardens.
The program kicks-off on Friday 27 August with “INTRODUCING…” – a collection of live performances by the next generation of local musicians and songwriters on the Esplanade Festival Stage, headlined by Jaguar Jonze and local songstress Amber Farnan.

Plan will shape future of Cairns
Shaping the city’s future by striving to earn the trust of residents, being transparent and responsible in community interactions, and safeguarding the character of the Cairns are the core values which will guide Cairns Regional Council over the next five years.
Adopted today, the Corporate Plan 2021-2026 provides a framework for all decisions and programs that will be implemented by Council.
“Through our Corporate Plan, we have documented the core values that will drive everything that we do,” Mayor Bob Manning said.
“In developing the plan, Council took into account the results of the Our Cairns Survey, conducted in August 2020 and involving more than 8000 respondents, who provided an insight into the sort of city they want to live in and the values they hold dear about where we live.

Gala dinner serves up $40,000 for annual appeal
A charity dinner featuring culinary delights from some of the city’s top chefs has raised almost $41,000 for the annual Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Appeal.
Kicking-off the fundraising for this year’s appeal, the second annual 5-Star Chefs for Charity gala dinner was held at Shangri-La The Marina Cairns on Saturday evening (24 July).
Themed “A White Christmas in July”, the event was attended by 160 guests, who were treated to four-course dinner, prepared by the head chefs from Hilton Cairns, Pullman Cairns International, Shangri-La The Marina Cairns and the Pullman Reef Hotel Casino.

Guide focuses on well-designed tropical residential developments
Council has published a new design guide to encourage quality and well-designed residential development that reflects the unique character of Cairns.
The new Designing for Density in the Tropics Design Guide provides the community, Council, developers, design professionals and builders with practical guidance on designing higher density residential developments that are appropriate for Cairns and its tropical climate.
The Guide was informed by local expertise and feedback of an Industry Reference Group with representatives from the key development sectors.
As our population continues to grow, so too does the demand for new and higher-density housing beyond the inner-city circle,” Cairns Mayor Bob Manning said.
