THE government decision to restrict Eid holidays to three days needs to be appreciated; two would have been even better. We are an economically backward country that just cannot afford the luxury of long holidays. The nation has to give up such meaningless luxuries if it wishes to improve its lot.
The ‘tradition’ of long holidays, sometimes lasting even a week, was introduced during the 1980s, and we must go back to the holiday pattern that was in vogue till the 1970s. Also, there should be no holiday on Feb 5 to express solidarity with the Kashmiris. The best way to do that is to make Pakistan economically strong that will help their cause as well.
