West Stanly completes sweep of South Granville in 2A softball championship

Mocksville, N.C. One hit and one run was all West Stanly notched and all West Stanly needed in Game 2 of its softball championship series against South Granville. The Colts completed the sweep of the Vikings with a 1-0 victory on Saturday, taking home the N.C. High School Athletic Association 2A championship for the second time in as many postseasons (the Colts won the 2019 title but the 2020 postseason wasn t played).
It s the fourth softball championship for West Stanly (1997, 2013, 2019, 2021) and the third of which has come against South Granville (they ve met five times in championship finals).

The N.C. High School Athletic Association softball state championship series are set to take place this weekend.
Due to the lack of collegiate venues available as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the events will be held at Davie County High and North Davidson High on Friday and Saturday.
The eight qualifying teams have spent the last two weeks battling through their respective regional brackets on their way to this opportunity for a title.
Here are some of the players who helped their teams break through in this shortened season.

A BLACK North Carolina student was forced to cut her hair during a softball game by her white coach.
Nicole Pyles revealed that the umpire told her the beads in her hair were blocking her jersey number - so her teammates had to cut them off.

The Daily Mail reported that Pyles who plays for Hillside High School in Durham, North Carolina was pulled out of the game in the second inning.
